Monamie Bhadra Research Assistant, CSPO, and Fellow, CNS
Monamie Bhadra is a doctoral student in the new Human and Social Dimensions of Science and Technology Program (HSDST) housed in the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes (CSPO). Monamie also is a fellow at the Center for Nanotechnology and Society (CNS), and is working with Dave Conz on the "Tubes in the Desert" project, which examines the societal implications of large-scale production of algae-based biodiesel. Monamie is broadly interested in the intersection of the global governance of science, technology with inequality. She tentatively has decided to conduct her dissertation work on comparing risk and vulnerability discourses between India and the United States around the development of biofuels.
Prior to joining CSPO and CNS, Monamie graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005 with bachelor’s degrees in geology and English. While at the University of Michigan, she worked with Shobita Parthasarathy as both a research assistant and an administrative assistant, and aided her with comparative research of the United States and European patent offices as sites of public engagement with respect to biotechnological patents. Monamie also helped inaugurate the Science, Technology and Public Policy Program at University of Michigan and created its Web site.
