Gretchen Gano joined the CNS-ASU staff in the fall of 2009. She organizes activities for CNS-ASU to reach the community and K-12 educators; designs materials and programs based on CNS research activities for both formal and informal education, and builds scholarly communication and archiving capabilities. She holds a master's degree in library science and a master's degree in public policy, with a concentration in science and technology policy, from Rutgers University. Gano is on leave from her faculty appointment as librarian for public administration and government information and coordinator of the NYU Data Service Studio at New York University Division of Libraries. In fall 2009, she joined the Human and Social Dimensions of Science and Technology doctoral program at ASU to research knowledge transfer and utilization across the boundaries dividing expert and lay communities.

Before transitioning into the library profession, Gano was creative director for the virtual reality planetarium show entitled Search for Life: Are We Alone, produced for the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. She also designed and produced information graphics, interactive kiosk, and Web content about current earth science, biodiversity and astrophysics research as the art director for Science Bulletins at the museum. In her early career, Gano supervised post-production for documentary film and television in New York City. Select projects include Michael Moore's TV Nation, Laurie Anderson's Dal Vivo-Life, and PBS's American Experience.
