My work focuses on the politics of medicine in the United States,
particularly the ways in which healthcare is being shaped by neoliberal
ideologies. One research project examines the organization of
pharmaceutical clinical trials, especially those drug studies that are
conducted in private practices and for-profit research settings around
the country. My book on the topic (Medical Research for Hire: The
Political Economy of Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials) will be published
in 2008 by Rutgers University Press. A second research project explores
the social and organizational implications for hospitals of new tracking
technologies that monitor the real-time location of equipment, patients,
and staff.
