Ben A. Minteer

Assistant Professor, Human Dimensions of Biology

Ben A. Minteer is an Assistant Professor in the Human Dimensions of Biology Faculty in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University.   His research focuses on a set of questions in theoretical and applied environmental ethics, including the philosophical foundations of environmental values and the normative justification of environmental policy and natural resource management (especially biodiversity policy and the management of U.S. public lands).  

Ben's work also explores the politics of environmental thought and the historical and intellectual development of American conservation and environmentalism.  He is the coeditor of Reconstructing Conservation (Island Press, 2003) and Democracy and the Claims of Nature (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002), as well as author of numerous articles and book chapters in environmental ethics.  Before coming to ASU, Ben held positions at Georgia Tech, Bucknell University, and Columbia University. 

He received his Ph.D. in the human dimensions of natural resources from the University of Vermont in 2000.
