People at GCK Project
Monamie Bhadra Graduate Student, Political Science, ASU
Monamie Bhadra is a doctoral student at ASU's Department of Political Science. She is broadly interested in the intersection of global governance of science, technology, and inequality. She has tentatively decided on conducting dissertation work around the problems of global governance over the extractive industries with the aim of alleviating the "resource curse" of many resource-rich, developing nations. Monamie is also a fellow at the Center for Nanotechnology and Society (CNS), and is working with Dave Conz on the "Tubes in the Desert" project, which examines the societal implications of the large-scale production of algae-based biodiesel.
Prior to joining CSPO and CNS, Monamie worked with Dr. Shobita Parthasarathy as both a research assistant and an administrative assistant. Monamie aided Dr. Parthasarathy's comparative research of the U.S. and European patent offices as sites of public engagement with respect to biotechnological patents. Monamie also helped inaugurate the new Science, Technology and Public Policy Program at University of Michigan, and she continues to maintain the program's website. Monamie graduated from the University of Michigan in 2005 where she received her B.Sc. (honors) in Geology and a B.A. in English. Her other research interests include the relation between post-colonialism and technology development, and investigating imaginaries of the future within science fiction literature. .
