Risto Karinen
Graduate Research
Associate
Risto is a graduate student at
ASU’s Department of Political Science. He
arrived in Arizona in the fall of 2003. Prior to that, he spent two
years working for
the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland and four years for
consultancy
companies in Finland focusing on strategic planning, scenario building,
program and policy evaluation, and organizational change. Risto
graduated with a
B.A. and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of
Tampere, Finland.
He also holds an M.A. in International Conflict Resolution from the
University of
Kent at Canterbury, United Kingdom.
Risto’s main interest is in the relationship between knowledge and
policy making.
He is starting his dissertation research, which looks at how
internationally
produced expert knowledge interacts with different kinds of
policy-making
structures and cultures. Risto will be looking at policy-making in two
policy
fields, economic and environmental, in two countries, the United Kingdom
and
Finland.
