Tischa Munoz PhD Candidate, School of Sustainability
Tischa is a PhD student at ASU’s School of Sustainability and an IGERT Fellow in Urban Ecology. She holds a M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from Northern Arizona University. Prior to arriving to ASU, Tischa conducted research and applied projects in the U.S. and Latin America aimed at understanding the role of alternative institutions/organizations and adaptive management tools in integrating various types of knowledge, values and attitudes, along with their effects on socio-ecological resilience. Tischa’s master’s thesis evaluated the ecological and social outcomes of collaborative management with the development and implementation of place-based sustainability indicators. This project evolved into the Integrated Monitoring for Sustainability (IMfoS) program and continues to support managers and stakeholders in fostering learning and adaptive capacity. Tischa also worked as a Research Associate with NAU’s Forest Ecosystem Restoration Analysis (ForestERA) Project in evaluating how scientific modeling tools and participatory processes influence stakeholder attitudes and discourses in forest restoration policy.
Tischa is now expanding her interests in adaptive governance to the area of water resource management and sustainability. Her interests in global knowledge include understanding the convergence (or divergence) of global knowledge and networks for integrated water resource management with local knowledge, values and justice issues.
