John Parker Barrett Honors College Faculty Fellow
Dr. John Parker joined Arizona State University's Barrett Honors College in 2006. He holds a B.S. in Sociology from Northern Arizona University, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Arizona State University. He specializes in the sociology of science, technology and work. The majority of his research explores social and technical aspects of scientific collaborations. His most recent projects examine scientific/intellectual social movements as agents of change in science, the functioning of interdisciplinary organizational and research group collaborations, and the roles played by emotions and affective relationships in the production of scientific knowledge. His interests in the area of global knowledge and expertise include understanding how international networks of scientific expertise are constructed and maintained, exploring the strategies used by these networks to produce knowledge that global in scope and application, and understanding power relations with regards to which groups have the authority to make claims about global knowledge.
