CSPO in the News

November 2007

Elizabeth Corley, Research Team Leader at the Center for Nanotechnology in Society at ASU, comments in an article regarding nanotechnology. The unknown human health and environmental impacts of nanotechnology are a bigger worry for scientists than for the public, according to a new report in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

Netra Chhetri, Assistant Professor at the Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes at ASU, comments in an article regarding global warming. Skeptics are raising their voices about global warming on many levels. Despite disagreements however, most scientists can concur that it is happening. Netra Chhetri discusses how the debate on the global scale is settled, and that what remains is an in depth look into our how it affects the local level.

Erik Fisher, Assistant Research Professor at the Center for Nanotechnology in Society and Consortium for Science, Policy, and Outcomes, comments in the ASU article, "Nanotechnology means big changes for memory". Recent research at ASU has developed remarkable new devices for both storage and memory, that will outdate all existing forms of memory and storage technology. Erik Fisher comments on the implications and predictions of future use of nanotechnology.

Dave Guston, Director of the Center for Nanotechnology in Society at Arizona State University, was featured in an “ASU Spotlight: The Biodesign Institute” on KAET/Eight discussing “Tools of the Trade.” Nanoscale engineering can be a powerful tool for improving public health and quality of life. Working at the nanoscale with organic and inorganic materials (i.e., from DNA strands to gold nanowires), the Biodesign Institute’s applications include improved diagnostic devices, medical implants such as continuous glucose monitoring for diabetics and improved solar power. Other panelists include: George Poste, Director, the Biodesign Institute; Subhash Mahajan, Director, School of Materials, Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering; with guest interviews with Joseph Wang, the Biodesign Institute and Stuart Lindsay, the Biodesign Institute.
