Now in her fourth year of the HSD PhD program, Shannon is wrapping up a project on the use of design
policies as an extension to innovation policies, and the benefits of leveraging
design at the national level for enhanced economic competitiveness. She is also
currently exploring the recently-founded Arizona Commerce Authority as a
potential site for dissertation research. The ACA is likely to play a critical
role in shaping Arizona's
future through the types of businesses the Authority chooses to attract and the
state policies it will try to put in place regarding business, finance, and
education.
Shannon served as the
Arizona State Senate Intern for the Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform
Committee throughout the Fiftieth Legislature, First Regular Session. Through
this experience she gained a critical understanding of politics and the
legislative process at the state level. Prior to joining the HSD Phd Program
Shannon received her Masters in the Science of Design from ASU's College of
Design (now the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts), where she studied
the ways in which designers can critically assess the potential social and
cultural implications of their work. She holds a B.A. with Honors in Furniture
Design from the University
of Central Lancashire.
