Alliance for Public Technology
Washington, DCAPT is composed of public interest groups and individuals, some of whom historically have been left out of the Information Age, including the elderly, minorities, low income groups and people with disabilities.  APT is a coalition of public interest groups and individuals whose goal is to foster broad access to affordable, usable information and communication services and technology. APT provides an effective grassroots voice for equitable and affordable access to the benefits of telecommunications technology in the Information Age.

Center for Democracy and Technology
Washington, DCThe Center for Democracy and Technology works to promote democratic values and constitutional liberties in the digital age. With expertise in law, technology, and policy, CDT seeks practical solutions to enhance free expression and privacy in global communications technologies. CDT is dedicated to building consensus among all parties interested in the future of the Internet and other new communications media.


Center for Neighborhood Technology
Center for Neighborhood Technology is a non-profit organization that helps build prosperous, sustainable communities by linking economic and community development with ecological improvement. The Center's work in public policy, market development and community planning is grounded in the Chicago region and national in scope.  Projects include: Transportation & Air Quality, Sustainable Manufacturing & Recycling, Research & Development, and Information & Public Education.

CPSR: Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility
CPSR is a public-interest alliance of computer scientists and others concerned about the impact of computer technology on society. We work to influence decisions regarding the development and use of computers because those decisions have far-reaching consequences and reflect our basic values and priorities.
As technical experts, CPSR members provide the public and policymakers with realistic assessments of the power, promise, and limitations of computer technology. As concerned citizens, we direct public attention to critical choices concerning the applications of computing and how those choices affect society.

Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs
The purpose of the Pugwash Conferences is to bring together, from around the world, influential scholars and public figures concerned with reducing the danger of armed conflict and seeking cooperative solutions for global problems.  Meeting in private as individuals, rather than as representatives of governments or institutions, Pugwash participants exchange views and explore alternative approaches to arms control and tension reduction with a combination of candor, continuity, and flexibility seldom attained in official East-West and North-South discussions and negotiations. The US Office of International Pugwash is housed at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge MA.

The Loka Institute
The Loka Institute is a non-profit research and advocacy organization concerned with the social, political, and environmental repercussions of science and technology. Founded in 1987, the Loka Institute is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] research and advocacy organization concerned with the social, political, and environmental repercussions of science and technology. Loka works to make science and technology more responsive to social and environmental concerns by expanding opportunities for grassroots, public-interest group, everyday citizen, and worker involvement in vital facets of science and technology decision making.
