Jim Holway
Jim is the Associate Director for
Solutions of the Global Institute of Sustainability. One of his
primary responsibilities is to create and direct the
Sustainability Partnership (SP). The SP will build partnerships
between policymakers, practitioners, researchers and educators.
Through technical assistance, outreach, and training SP will aid
state and local government decision making and program
implementation. Jim is also a Professor of Practice in Civil and
Environmental Engineering, a Senior Research Fellow with the
Morrison Institute for Public Policy and the ASU Coordinator for
the Arizona Water Institute.
Prior to joining ASU in 2005, Jim served as
Assistant Director of the Arizona Department of Water Resources.
His responsibilities included overseeing the state's Active
Management Area, conservation, assured water supply, recharge,
well permitting, and groundwater and surface water rights
programs. Prior to Jim's 12 years with the AZ Department of
Water Resources he coordinated environmental programs for the
Regional Council of Governments in Baltimore, MD.
Jim serves on a number of committees and advisory boards
including the Governor's Growing Smarter Oversight Council, the
Arizona Town Hall and the University of Arizona Water
Sustainability Program Advisory Committee. Jim also serves on
the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board which he chaired
in 2003 and 2004.
Jim earned his bachelors degree in Political
Science from Cornell University and both a Ph.D. and Masters in
Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina.
